24 HOURS OF CARNAGE; FOUR SHOT Saturday, 2.18am

0 Comments | Sunday Mercury (Birmingham, England), July 18, 2010

FOUR people, including a 16 year-old girl, were shot outside a busy Birmingham pub after gang violence erupted on the city’s streets.

The running battle was sparked by an argument in the Victoria Inn in Cattell Road, Bordesley Green area at about 2.20am yesterday morning.

The young girl and three men, who were all in their 20s, needed hospital treatment after the shoot-out.

None of those injured had life-threatening injuries but the shocking incident brought back memories of the deaths of Letisha Shakespeare, 17, and Charlene Ellis, 18, who were shot dead by mistake outside a hair salon in Aston in January 2003.

Eye-witnesses said a fight started inside the pub during a party and spilled out onto the road, where at least six shots were fired.

The 16 year-old girl was hit by a bullet in the stomach. The injuries sustained by the men were last night unknown.

A number of those involved were believed to be from the B6 Slash gang, which comes from Aston, sparking renewed fears of titfor-tat violence.

“There were a set of lads arguing over something,” said a teenage girl who was in the Victoria at the time.

Escape “They started fighting. Suddenly, lots of them were punching this one boy.

“He was going to leave the pub to escape them, but people were telling him to stay put because someone outside had a gun.

“I stayed in the pub but they all went out into the street.

“I heard six shots fired. The girl got hit in the stomach but it was from an accidental ricochet.

“I was terrified. The police came about 30 minutes later and everyone got sent home.”

Another witness told how one injured youngster fled the gang violence, before collapsing more than 300 yards away.

“He was shot near the pub, but then ran down away onto a different street,” said the onlooker, who asked not to be named.

“He fell down on the pavement because he couldn’t carry on.

“It is all the gangs as usual. The pub is used by the Johnson Crew and Slash and that. It kicked off in there, and then it carried on in the street where they were all shooting at each other.”

The B6 Slash gang is said to be an offshoot of the notorious Johnson Crew gang, who have been linked to violent confrontation with rivals Bang Bang, a group linked to the Burger Bar Boys.

The Bordesley Green shootings come just three weeks after four people were shot outside the Space 2 venue at the Custard Factory, Digbeth, following an urban music night on June 12.

It was the culmination of months of feuding on internet message boards between the notorious Burger Bar Boys and Johnson Crew.

Just two weeks later a 20-year-old man was shot in the stomach outside a takeaway restaurant in Lozells. Six minutes after that, a 32 year-man was hit in the groin in Handsworth Wood.

Gangland sources warned the attacks could lead to further violence as rivals hit back at each other, battling for so-called “respect” on the streets. Parts of Bordesley Green were still cordoned off last night as forensic officers combed the scene for evidence, and cops said that it was “too early to rule out” gang links, appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“A major investigation has been launched and detectives from Force CID are in the area carrying out witness appeals, house to house inquiries, CCTV trawls and forensic scene enquiries,” said a West Midlands Police spokesman.

“We believe many people were in the area and would have witnessed the incident. We urge them to come forward and help the police investigation.

“Police received numerous calls following the incident outside the Victoria Inn on Cattell Road, at 2.18am yesterday.

“It is believed that there was a party at the pub at the time. Officers are appealing for anyone who was there to contact them.”

Businesses inside the cordon were forced to stay closed yesterday as cops continued their inquiries.

The Victoria is well-known in the area for late-night drinking sessions, leading to calls from some locals for it to be shut down.

Night Tariq Mamood, 40, who manages the Paradise Snooker Club opposite the pub, said: “There are always people outside late at night.

Mid-Continent, Crowne Plaza auction dates not yet set

Two high-profile Tulsa foreclosures – the Crowne Plaza Hotel and the Mid-Continent Tower – will not make the sheriff’s auction block before Aug. 17.

Although attorneys representing Tulsa Hotel Partners LLC said the paperwork was in process for scheduling the 462-room Crowne Plaza sheriff sale, Deputy Ed Pierce with the Tulsa County sheriff’s office said he has not received a special execution order from the court authorizing publication of a public notice, appraisal and sale. Until that happens, a sale cannot advance.

“If they get it to me by next Tuesday, it will be on the Aug. 17 sale,” he said Friday. “If they can’t, it will be on the Aug. 24 sale at the earliest.”

After 16 years of receivership, the 331,640-square-feet Mid- Continent Tower had originally been set for a June 1 sheriff’s sale, only to be yanked off the list. Although analysts had expected the sale to resume quickly, Pierce said he has not received the alias execution order required to publish and relist the downtown Tulsa property.

It therefore faces the same timeline deadlines as Crowne Plaza.

“We will use same appraisal,” Pierce said, which was $17.8 million. “But now we’ll put it back on the docket for the hefty fee of 75 bucks.”

L-3 gains $175M Army contract

The U.S. Army has extended a generator supply contract with Tulsa- based L-3 Communications Westwood Corp. by $175 million to total $376 million.

The fixed-price deal for 30- and 60-kilowatt tactical quiet generators uses a three-year, indefinite-delivery/indefinite- quantity contract. Officials said this ensures a seamless supply of generators used in computers, communications, reconnaissance, and other combat and command support systems.

L-3 Communications Westwood will produce the work in Tulsa under an estimated March 1, 2011, completion date.

According to L-3 Web histories, Westwood has designed and built electrical distribution and control equipment since 1968

She went face first into the door and broke her nose. At this point she teared up again and said that she loved her dog but didn?t know if she could keep him. She had no control. I told her not to worry, and that we would get her dog under control.

I taught her my system for dealing with behavior problems, what I call my M.U.T.T. Method. The M stands for Manage, U for Underlying, T for Training, and the last T is for Time.

M=Management ? A big part of dog ownership is effectively managing your dog?s behavior. Crates, kennels, baby gates, and leashes are some tools to help you manage your dog?s behavior. In this case, we put a gentle leader head collar on her dog to help manage her dog?s pulling problem.

A gentle leader works by controlling the dog?s head. In principle, it works a lot like a horse bridle. It makes it much more difficult for the dog to pull, and it gives you much better control over the dog on leash.

U=Underlying ? Whenever you are dealing with a behavior problem you have to understand that there is an underlying problem.

ACT’s Video Conferencing Business Bumps in 2010

0 Comments | Wireless News, Jul 30, 2010

ACT Conferencing announced that it has experienced an increase in volume in its video conferencing and ACT Proximity video conference room rentals in the first half of 2010 as more companies seek alternatives to expensive and aggravating business travel.

Those using the ACT Proximity video conferencing service have found it to be so convenient that many companies are expanding their use of the technology.

The persistent worldwide economic recession coupled with natural disasters preventing travel, such as the volcanic eruption in Iceland, have required that businesses look for alternative ways to communicate face-to-face with clients, partners, employees and investors.

ACT Proximity is a worldwide network of video room rental suites. With more than 4,500 public video conference room locations available on an hourly basis, users gain rapid access to virtual meetings without the need to own or operate equipment. Additionally, no contracts or obligations are required. Businesses simply search online for locations and reserve the videoconference rooms that meet their requirements.

“Businesses trying to thrive in this economy can’t afford to underestimate the importance of personal relationships and face-to- face conversations, however the rising cost of travel, environmental concerns, and increasing reluctance of employees to be proverbial ‘road-warriors’ have made high-definition video conferencing a reality,” said Marina Bogard, chief sales and marketing officer for ACT Conferencing. “We’re seeing double digit growth in reservations from small businesses to Fortune 1000s

You don’t have to

You don’t have to wear blue to honor your grandmother. You don’t have to have tulips in your bouquet because those are your mother’s favorite flower. You don’t have to serve steak because that’s what your dad likes to eat. This will be your wedding and you want to remember it fondly, so make your own.

? Tradition is good but your enjoyment is better. Remember, your wedding should be an expression of your love for each other, and not a tribute to age old tradition if that is not who you are.

You will look back on your wedding for the rest of your married life. For too many people it can be a miserable time because too many people unintentionally spoiled it. If you follow these helpful guidelines, you will find greater enjoyment in your wedding today and in the memories for years to come.

You can take your time learning the delights that come with delaying or eliminating ejaculation as you explore the many other ingredients of sacred sex practice ? emotional and mental as well as physical.

Neo-tantra begins with much from her traditional parent ? for example, the precept that sexual union can lead to transcendence, and specific techniques of breath and muscle control ? and adds an assortment of other goodies. Jungian concepts, Reichian bodywork, acupressure, aromatherapy, creative visualization and dynamic meditation can all be part of the loose and joyous eclectic meld. The essential approach is spiritual, meaning non-religious and non-dogmatic. And playfulness is woven into the fabric of loving ? laughter and lust come hand in hand to the true lovers? bed.

But sacred sex goes far beyond the bedroom, helping partners open fully to each other in trust and love through all facets of their relationship.

This includes comparing your own petty personal problems to things like death, war, and injustice, and finding some sort of unique parallel no matter what the situation may be. It also includes having a constant inner dialogue with yourself where you point out these parallels with witty commentary. For example: ?Even the news reminded me of him. Yesterday I saw this report that said routine circumcision in Africa could prevent 300,000 deaths in the next ten years. What a shocker! Chopping away at a guy?s penis could help eliminate pain, loss, and heart-ache. What will they think of next??

2.) You must have issues with food. If you plan to be a television or movie heroine, this means that you cannot eat. Period. If you plan to be a book heroine, this means that you must eat all the time, except when you?re not eating, and then you should be thinking about eating.

Jim Morris’s Fishing Report

0 Comments | Dayton Daily News, Jun 10, 2010 | by Anonymous

Grand Lake St. Marys: Bass fishing has been good. Anglers are working the channels around structure with spinner baits and plastics. Crappies are in the channels around brush, but mostly deep. For catfish, work the rocks with nightcrawlers or cut shad. Bluegills are still spawning, hitting redworms and waxworms close to the banks.

Rocky Fork Lake: Saugeye fishing has been excellent. Anglers are fishing early and late and mostly trolling, using leadheads with twisters. Chartreuse/red flake has been the top color. Try tipping the lure with a nightcrawler
